About Maribel Rubio

unnamed.jpg

Maribel Rubio is a writer, artist, and community advocate dedicated to healing, empowerment, and social justice. She is the author of La Mujer Antes de Ser Madre, a bilingual reflective journal designed to nurture intergenerational conversations between mothers and daughters, and Sangre Matriarca, a lyrical book of poetry and reflection that traces matrilineal memory through the voices of women in her family. Blending personal narrative, ancestral wisdom, and cultural history, Sangre Matriarca is both an homage to her maternal lineage and a call to honor the strength carried in bloodlines.

Her literary work continues to grow, as she is currently writing a biographical novel, a utopian futuristic novel, and a children’s book, each weaving themes of identity, justice, and imagination.

Maribel’s creative practice spans poetry, visual art, photography, and traditional handwork such as cross-stitching, all rooted in cultural memory and storytelling. Through her platform WanderWomen Outdoors, she uplifts women and girls by reclaiming ancestral relationships with the land, centering anti-colonial perspectives, and fostering empowerment through nature.

Beyond her art, Maribel is a certified opioid overdose prevention trainer through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). She leads community workshops on harm reduction, mental health, and trauma, bridging her current graduate studies in clinical psychology with grassroots activism.

She has presented her work at conferences, bookstores, and community spaces, highlighting the intersections of patriarchy, trauma, and resilience. Her workshops and talks invite communities to reflect, heal, and grow together through creativity, dialogue, and collective knowledge.

Whether through her books, her art, or her advocacy, Maribel’s work seeks to honor the forgotten, amplify marginalized voices, and build pathways toward collective healing.
