Sangre Matriarca
(Matriarchal Blood)
In Sangre Matriarca, author Maribel Rubio unearths the buried histories of the women who came before her—mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters—whose voices were often silenced but whose actions shaped generations. What begins as a personal mission to preserve family stories transforms into a powerful meditation on the enduring strength of matriarchal love.
At the heart of this narrative is Chuy, a bright and curious girl born in a tiny Mexican pueblo in 1934. Her world is irrevocably changed when, at the age of seven, her mother dies in childbirth on Mother’s Day.

'Sangre Matriarca is not just a story of survival, it is a story of a woman who thrives. Her granddaughter, Maribel Rubio, was so inspired by Chuy that she wrote this family saga. If you enjoyed Min Jin Lee’s Pachinko. You will love this unvarnished story about family life.'
